Message of the Order of Malta’s Grand Master for the Beginning of Lent
The Grand Master of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, Fra’ John Dunlap, writes to the Members, Volunteers and Friends of the Order on the occasion of the beginning of the Holy Season of Lent, inviting them to live this liturgical period as a renewed journey of return to the Lord through prayer, fasting, and charity:
Dear Members, Volunteers and Friends of the Order,
Lent is a providential time of return — a return to the Lord who first loved us. In the silence of prayer, in the discipline of fasting, and in the quiet generosity of almsgiving, we allow Christ to draw us closer to His Heart.
For members, volunteers and friends of the Order, this journey is never abstract: it leads us to recognise Him more readily in the sick, the poor, and the lonely. May this holy season purify our intentions, deepen our charity, and renew our joy in serving Christ in His suffering members.
